MINERAL INTEREST CONVEYANCESOct 19, 2007

"Minerals" may have different meanings in identical deeds given at different times, under different circumstances or in different jurisdictions. Mineral interests are often conveyed in fractional amounts. What if the owner of a fractional interest in turn conveys a fractional interest? What if the owner conveys more than is owned? How does the Duhig Rule apply in such situations? This session offers guidance in interpreting ambiguous mineral conveyances, interpreting terms like "mineral" or "oil, gas and other minerals" for the purposes of determining ownership and interpreting ambiguous fractional conveyances.

Natural Resources lawyer Dan Jensen will present this topic at the 32nd Mineral Law Conference hosted by the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF).

Natural Resources lawyer Dan Jensen will present a white paper titled "Access on Federal Public Lands" at a special two-day institute hosted by the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute. The presentation will address the surface use of federal public lands to access oil and gas leases on adjoining federal lands. Mr. Jensen will also address access rights on the leasehold itself, access rights in the context of federal split estates, and procedures for obtaining access authorization together with relevant statutory, regulatory, administrative and contractual provisions. The nature, scope, and terms of access authorizations will be examined.

Parr Waddoups lawyers Steve Hill and Jonathan Hafen will participate in the Law & Economics Society and Utah State Bar Litigation Section half-day seminar titled "What Utah Judges Really Think About Daubert."
