The firm's Corporate and M&A and Commercial Litigation practices were both ranked in the second tier in the annual guide and 12 firm attorneys were singled out for recognition.
REAL ESTATE:
The Parr Waddoups Real Estate practice has been ranked number one five consecutive years. When describing the top-ranked practice, Chambers notes it is "clearly very fine." It is an obvious choice for real estate matters and "attracts some of the best clients." Four real estate lawyers were ranked high on the Chambers list.
David Gee again ranked number one for Utah real estate. According to Chambers, "first-rate" Mr. Gee is admired for his "sophisticated and reasonable" approach, noting "he really protects his clients' interests."
Charles Maak captured a place of honor again this year on Chambers' Senior Statesman list and is "head and shoulders above the rest" in the Utah real estate market.
Robert McConnell is described as having a strong transactional real estate practice and is well versed in development issues.
Lamont Richardson was added to this year's guide in the Up and Coming category. His "good commercial training" stands him in good stead for future success and peers found him a pleasure with which to work.
CORPORATE and M&A
The firm's Corporate/M&A practice captured second place in 2007 with four lawyers being singled out as tops in their field. According to the Chambers Guide, Parr Waddoups' "tremendous" M&A group is "the strongest local group," and "this excellent firm has across-the-board expertise in a lot of areas." One competitor observed, "I couldn't feel bad if we lost out in a beauty contest to them."
Scott Loveless shares first place with colleague Brian Lloyd. Mr. Loveless "clearly belongs in the first tier" due to the depth and breadth of his experience in the field and his sophisticated practice.
Brian Lloyd was described as "a long-standing trusted adviser" and is "really at the high end" according to impressed peers. The guide notes that his presence is a definite asset to the team.
Brent Stevenson ranked second in Corporate/M&A work and is extolled as "one of the most intelligent guys in town--a tremendous lawyer." He remains one of the "most experienced" transactional lawyers in the area.
Seth King was recognized in the Up and Coming category for Corporate/M&A and was described as "very competent and provides excellent service for clients."
In a significant transaction last year, the M&A group represented SkyWest in a $200 million acquisition.
COMMERICAL LITIGATION
The Parr Waddoups Commercial Litigation practice shares second place in the Utah market. The practice area is described as having strength, depth and breadth of knowledge. Four lawyers were spotlighted as high ranking litigators in Utah.
Clark Waddoups shares second place with his colleague, Robert Clark. Mr. Waddoups is recognized for his ability to combine both business and litigation skills.
Robert Clark is hailed by peers as "practical and good at thinking at his feet. He doesn't fight just for the sake of it and is very client-oriented."
Jeffrey Hunt has developed a niche practice in First Amendment and media litigation and competitors unanimously agree on his quality work and strengths in First Amendment issues.
Jonathan Hafen was recognized in the Up and Coming category as a "very able, sophisticated, intelligent and articulate" lawyer. One competitor noted Mr. Hafen "provides litigation with an economic side to it. If you get him in a case you know you've got good competition."
A particularly significant litigation case in the past year involved representing Technology Integration Group in a lengthy battle which resulted in its winning damages of $2.38 million in a lawsuit against solution provider Access Microsystems.
