Joseph Covey concentrates his practice on corporate bankruptcy, reorganization and workouts with broad experience representing Chapter 11 corporate debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, bondholders, and unsecured creditors' committees. He has represented large commercial lenders and secured bondholders in numerous multi-million dollar commercial real estate workout, foreclosure and state receivership matters. Mr. Covey also represents lenders, borrowers and real estate developers in structuring and documenting secured real estate lending transactions.
Mr. Covey has lectured for local and national education associations on bankruptcy-related topics. He was selected by his peers as one of Utah's Legal Elite in bankruptcy for 2005, 2006 and 2008 in Utah Business magazine. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Covey was associated with the New York based law firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP.

- Represented American Healthcare Investment as sole secured bondholder owed $10 million by Chapter 11 debtor Mission Health Services.
- Represented secured lender owed $11 million by personal injury law firm in state receivership proceeding.
- Represented unsecured creditor Fifth Third Bank owed $780,000 by Chapter 11 debtor.
- Represented secured creditor GE Capital Franchise Finance owed $5 million by chapter 11 debtor Tri Valley Distributing.
- Represented defendant in $7 million avoidance action brought by trustee of Chapter 11 debtor National School Fitness Foundation.
- Represented distribution agent of liquidating trust for Chapter 11 debtor Avalon Digital Marketing.
- Represented LNR Partners as secured creditor owed $2 million in commercial foreclosure on 83 unit multi-family apartment complex.
- Represented Sage Capital as secured real estate lender and joint venture partner in over $40 million worth of real estate acquisitions and financing arrangements.
- Represented Official Unsecured Creditors Committee of Chapter 11 debtor Avalon Digital Marketing.
- Represented Official Unsecured Creditors Committee of Chapter 11 debtor IDI Global, Inc.
- Represented Chapter 11 debtor Western Mill & Fixture Co.
